Thinky Thoughts About Writing and Conversation
I've been interested in dialogue and conversation, lately, especially conversational conventions in different parts of the country and the world, and how they meet and what role that plays in writing and dialogue (yeah, I know, writing thoughts. Big surprise). So, what conversational pet peeves do you guys have? Or do you have any at all? What about dialogue pet peeves? Do you find that you talk to different people differently? For instance, if you were talking to a very close friend and then a third person that you know, but not as well as the first person, enters the conversation, does the conversation change? I mean more than just the addition of new topics, does the way you speak change?

For instance, I realized that I don't tend to ask people questions. It feels rude, unless I know the person well-ish. And I'm not talking about personal questions, or even contraversial opinion type questions, just . . . "So, what are your hobbies?" kind of questions. Instead, I tend to tell people about myself, as an invitation for them to tell me about themself. (The problem is, I think some people construe that as rude, and possibly narcissistic. *G*)
